Q&A with Elizabeth Helen

We are beyond excited to have our first ever book-ish event coming up with the talented sister duo, Elizabeth Helen on Sunday 25 May, 11:00am. Elizabeth and Helen wrote the enchanting Beasts of the Briar Series, a romantasy fairytale retelling with fae, why-choose spice, angsty romance, and a twist on Beauty and the Beast.

In the lead up to their book signing this weekend, Elizabeth and Helen caught up with HarperCollins to answer all of our burning questions!

Do you have any writing rituals or habits?

We are creatures of habit! We usually start the day sitting on the couch with our laptops and our cats. We both like to write to music and usually have curated playlists for each scene! We’ll also choose a specific aesthetic to put on the TV. For example, if we’re writing about Farron, we’ll put a cozy autumn aesthetic on!

Which realm do you align with?

Helen aligns most with the Autumn Realm because she loves the cozy vibes of fall, as well as the Autumn faes’ love of libraries! We also were inspired by Scotland for the scenery of Autumn, and Edinburgh is Helen’s favourite city in the world!

Elizabeth aligns most with the Spring Realm! She loves fresh flowers, meadows, and cherry blossom trees, which are abundant in Spring! Also, she would  love to have healing magic.

It’s time to go on a date with one of the princes! Who are you choosing and where are you going?

Helen is choosing Dayton, because she’s shy and he’s very outgoing, so he would get her out of her shell! He’d probably drag her out to one of the many bars in Hadria, the capital city of Summer, for drinks and dancing. Then, they could take a moonlit walk on the beach!

Elizabeth would choose Farron, because they have the most in common! She could see them doing something cozy, like having dinner in, playing board games, or cuddling up in front of a roaring fireplace!

Is there a book which had a big impact on you as a kid?

The book series that left the biggest impression on us was The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. It completely swept us away, and we remain completely enchanted with Middle-earth today! (In fact, we’re so excited to be here in New Zealand as we’ll be visiting many of the filming locations!)

Which Beasts of the Briar book has been your favourite to write so far?

We both had so much fun writing Book 5 because it’s set in the Winter Realm and we got to write it around Christmas time! Also, it’s the most epic story so far, and so many aspects of the other books come together. We can’t wait for everyone to read it!

If just like us you can't get enough of Elizabeth Helen, or their Beasts of Briar series, then you can join us for their author talk and book signing at Enamoured Books. This free event is a must for romantasy lovers. Spaces are limited, so be sure to RSVP to publicity@harpercollins.co.nz to secure your spot.
